After so many weeks, I have finally found some time to write. And I have only realised that my previous entry was on that fateful day when the Tsunami hit us. I don't want to write about the catastrophe - so many have already done so. But what amazes me is that the previous post was written at 11 p.m., yet I did not make any reference to a Tsunami or earthquake at all. And you know why? Because I had no idea how terrible or extensive the effect was. But then none of us were prepared for it. I was just too busy minding my 7-month old son the whole day to turn on the TV, and no one had informed me via SMS. I only knew about it when my mother-in-law called from Alor Setar earlier that night to ask if we had felt any tremours that morning (which we hadn't) and she went on to relate (quite expansively, as she usually does and I sometimes tune out and back in again midway through the conversation) how the cups at the Menteri Besar's residence shook and that there were a couple of fatalities in Penang.
Such is my existence nowadays. I get up in the morning, and if I'm lucky I have time for breakfast (like today, which is very very seldom) while my son stays asleep till 7.00 a.m. when it's time for me to pick him up and leave for work. Otherwise, he'll be up by 6.30 when i'm halfway through getting dressed, and he'll insist that I stay with him or hold him the whole time. It's then a rush (and getting stuck in traffic) to my mum's place where I drop him off, another rush (and traffic jam) to get to the office by 8.00 a.m. (today was the first time this year I acconmplished that - hooray!) and work till 5.00 p.m., when I then have to make it through another KL traffic crawl back to my mum's place. By the time I reach there at 6.00 pm or thereabouts, my son is eagerly waiting for me. By the time we make it back to my condo (usually after dinner) it's a routine of putting my son to sleep, shower, prayers, a quick tidy-up and hit the sack. About the only time the TV comes on is on the weekends when we don't really have anywhere to go. And even then I can't really do much blogging or net-surfing because my son has developed a keen interest in the computer whenever it's on.
I always wonder how other people do it... are they all Superwomen who manage to feed, clothe and generally nurture their family single-handedly? I have only one son and a husband who voluntarily helps with the housework (God bless him!) and already I'm whipped (is that the correct phrase?). Or maybe I'm just lazy. I'd rather think I am negatively challenged on the home front instead. I just haven't been able to properly hone my domestic skills, is all.
